E-polylysine, 100 %
e-polylysine (e –poly – L – lysine, e – PL for short) is a homopolymer that consists of 25 – 35 L-lysine residues. It is produced by a fermentation process using Streptomyces albulus under aerobic conditions. e-polylysine can greatly inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, moulds, viruses etc. It has been widely used in food, daily chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries. e –polylysine can be completely digested and absorbed by the body, and absorbed by the body, and broken down into the essential lysine in human body without any side effects.
Advantages
1. Broad antibacterial spectrum: it has obvious inhibition to Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, moulds,
viruses and many other micro-organisms.
2. Good thermal stability: under high temperature (121 0C for 30min), e-polylysine does not decompose, so it is suitable for cooked food.
3. Good water-solubility: e-polylysine is easily soluble in water, the maximum solubility is 500 g/L at least.
4. Wide pH range: under the condition of pH 2-9, e-polylysine has strong bactericidal ability, it can make up for the deficiencies that
Other preservatives have low activity in neutral and alkaline conditions.
5. Strong synergism: as a natural preservative, e-polylysine can be used alone. In addition, it has good synergistic effects when blending with
Other food additives (vinegar, alcohol, glycine, organic acid, etc). After blending, its bactericidal action will be greatly improved.
6. High safety : the acute toxicity test of e-polylysine (LD50) is 5g/kg which is equivalent to the toxicity of salt. After eating, it can be
Broken down into L-lysine, one of the essential amino acids for human health and can be absorbed by the human body, without any
Toxic and side effects.
7. Health care function: studies have shown that e-polylysine can effectively inhibit enzyme activity and fact absorption which in turn reduce
the obesity.
Application in Food
Currently, e-polylysine has been widely used in food, beverage, such as: cake, pastry, snack food, butter, salad, sauce, drinks, wine, meat product, cans, etc. The dosage of national standard in different types of food can be referenced to the following table.
Food Classification No. | Food Name | Dosage |
07.0 | Baked food | 0.15 g/kg |
08.03 | Cooked meat products | 0.25 g/kg |
14.02 | Fruit and vegetable juice | 0.20 g/L |
In addition, e-polylysine can also be used as a better cleaning and disinfecting agent in food machinery and containers of food processing enterprises.
Application in Cosmetics and Daily Chemical Products
Cosmetics are very easily deteriorated due to microbial contamination in the process of production, storage and using. Spoiled cosmetics are especially harmful to human skin. e-polylysine has broad antibacterial spectrum, it can effectively inhibit the growth of microbes and ensure the good quality of products. e-polylysine is a polymer of amino acids, to be known as nutritional preservative, so it is much more environmentally-friendly, safe and efficient. e- polylysine has been widely applied in most of the daily chemical products such as toothpaste, gargle, soap, hand washing, wet wipes, kitchen cleaning agent, sanitary napkins, baby diapers.
Application in Medical Products
e- polylysine is rich in cations, which has strong electrostatic force with anionic materials and strong penetrating power to biofilms. Based on this characteristic, e-polylysine can be used as the carrier of ome srugs. Currently, e-polylysine has been widely applied in the field of medicine. e-polylysine can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of drugs when polymerize it with methotrexate (a drug for the treatment of leukemia, tumor). From the damage degree of electrical pulse to cell membrane which is modified by different molecular weight of e-polylysine, the researchers found that cell membrane which adsorbs e-polylysine with high molecular weight could reduce its own critical damage voltage.
